By now most of you are probably familiar with the movie Cast Away. The character that Tom Hanks plays becomes stranded on an island with the hope of being rescued within the first few days. Unfortunately this is not the case and he ends up living on the island for approximately four years.
As unlucky as he was, he was fortunate enough to get parcels delivered by the ocean ;o) Hey, at least he got to pretend like it was Christmas, even if it was only for a short period. LOL! How he never managed to open that one and only box, I will never know. The curiosity would have gotten the best of me. I can't stand an unopened parcel ;o)
So this got me thinking...if you were stranded on an island and could only have ONE cross stitch project with you, what would it be? Okay, okay, forget about the fact that there will be sand and dirt, hot sun and rain! We'll pretend that we don't have to worry about those things ;o) With that being the case, what would you want with you and why?
I've given this a lot of thought (i.e. moments of sitting on the toilet) and I've come to the conclusion that it would have to be the Sistine Chapel :oO In my head I figure I'm going to be on that island for a good amount of time and I DO NOT want to get bored! I gave HAED patterns a thought but stitching over one for an extended period would not do so that's another reason why I've gone with this choice. Did I mention that the Sistine Chapel is HUGE?

Wow, I've never seen that design before. It's huge! I can see why you would choose it.
My first thought was my poor neglected HAED! Same reason, too :) I think that would be plenty to entertain me day and night for YEARS!!
Your post cracked me up. I have never seen the cistine chapel before. It is so pretty. Maybe one day I will do that piece. I would probably pick a piece from ink circles. they are pretty big and so pretty. Its hard to pick just one.
I'd actually like to stitch a pattern of all my dogs together. All the colors, shapes, and sizes of all dogs past and present would keep me busy for years at my slow pace!
I'm going to have to give this some thought.... great question. It would have to be big enough to keep you busy but not so hard to work on that you'd not enjoy it. I think, if it were available, I'd pick And God Created (the supposed to be companion to And They Sinned). I have an idea in my mind of what that piece would look like and I think that'd be my pick. Of course, if it ever does come out and I don't love it, I'll be very disappointed.
Can we be stranded on the same island, I stitch from one end and you the other, oh wait that won't work, I'm assuming we will be rescued and then who would get the finished piece *LOL* ! This is such a good question, I'll have to ponder over it for now :)
Oh what a question!! I was thinking a HAED but over two so that would be quite big, other than that I wouldn't be able to choose, as I like having more than one to stitch on as I do get bored very quickly
You are ambitious my friend, that piece is awesome and yes you would have to plan to be on that poor old deserted island for a very long time! Did you want some company? I am sure there would be room for one more and her stitching.
Be always in stitches.
I only stitch while watching TV so if I can't have a TV on the island, there wouldn't be much point in bringing stitching. I think I'd have to find something else to keep me occupied.
Probably one of those stamped quilt tops. I'd have to have everything with me, including backing, but it would be washable, and those take FOREVER to do.
I have a pattern for the Portland Headlight Lighthouse. It will be 32"x32" solid stitching. I have it 1/4 finished. Being stranded on an island might get this one DONE!
So, when do we leave for the island?

I've been thinking, and although it's not cross stitch, I think that I would do Genny Morrow's "Nova" It's 396 squares, each 12x12 threads. So, I could do half a square each day. The stitches are all different, so I would probably have to frog a lot, but at least that would give me a little more to do!
I'm not so ambitious as you, but one of my cross stitch holy grails so to speak are the Celtic Season ladies. I think they are from Lavender and Lace. Anyway, I would take "Spring" with me, because I'm sure that would be the only time I would ever not get distracted/bored and leave it as a UFO. I would also have to have lots of gold plated needles, because what if your only needle broke? :O
Mine would have to be my HAED, I know it's slightly predictable but I love it sooooo much, I just wish I could stitch on it more often. It is being stitched over one but on 18ct aida :-)
This is an amazing piece. We should hurry to place an order if we are going to stitch it on the island - the sale might be over soon.
The Sistine Chapel would be a good choice or the largest HAED, you wouldn't want to finish it too quickly now, would you!!!!
This is a real poser!
But for me it would be a Seasonal Sampler so that I could remember each season, weather and events and try to decorate my island according to the season!
Buttons says there would have to be carrots otherwise he's not coming!!!
Your choices always amaze me. Since I don't cross stitch, I would have to bring some knitting, or some quilting materials (which I would have to sew by hand - no electricity). I prefer not being stranded though.
{{{Love and Hugs}}}
It would be Ophelia by Golden Kite. http://bit.ly/bsa8V4 I guess I'd be more optimistic than you? It's *the* Golden Kite/HAED type pattern I've always dreamed of stitching, but never purchased.
Why Cathey, I would just shrivel up and die! I can't even begin to just pick one-LOL
A Dimension Tree Skirt! LOL! It's something that I really would like to stitch but I think that it would take me so much time... this one or this one :)
