I've had this one done for awhile now. See, I told you I have a lot of things to share with you! There's just not enough hours in my day ;o)
This is Spring Is In The Air by Val's Stuff -
It's another freebie and this one IS on the internet! LOL! You can find it here.
I didn't like the colours that this design was charted for so I changed them all and used Crescent Colours :o) I'm really pleased the results. Pleased enough that I will stitch this one again! The fabric is just 28 count Ivory Jobelan.
I finally got my Springtime pillow in the mail today so you'll have to wait a little longer to see who the recipient is. I'm going to tease you even more though because I also sent out another little something to someone else :o) I found this rabbit template on the internet and put this cutie together the other day -
Sorry for the boring photo but it was the only one that showed just how purple the fabric is. All the other pictures came out with a blue hue :oS So who will get him/her? You'll have to just wait and see!
I wasn't kidding when I said that I have a lot to share. I've been holding out on you ;o) LOL! When things are quiet here at the Pumpkin Patch, you just never know what I'm doing or how fast my needles are flying...
Since I wanted to get into the 'spring mood', I thought this little freebie by Val's Stuff was perfect to begin with. This is Springtime -
For once I had the fabric but I didn't like the fibers she used so I changed it all up to my liking :o) I used all DMC and added a pink pansy button by JABC. But I didn't stop there! Oh no...
Today I finished it off into a little pillow -
Yay! I found the fabric in our local store that's closing down :o( I'm happy with the results but I was a little disappointed. I found the linen to be quite stretchy and a bit hard to work with while sewing so it's not up to my 100% satisfaction. LOL! Quality control is very strict here ;o)
Anyway, I plan on stitching this pattern again and basically just making a duplicate. How come you ask? Well, this one is going out to one of my readers as a thank you :o) How's that for a tease? Nope, I'm not going to reveal who that person is until the package has been received :oP
While I'm on the subject of pillows and duplicate projects, I thought I should share with you my second C Is For Cure by Lizzie Kate finish -
Again, just like the first one I did last year but this one will be staying home with me :o)
What's this you ask? When has she had time to finish not only one but TWO pieces? Don't worry, you're not going crazy because I've been asking myself the same question ;o) Not to worry though, they are not huge finishes by any means. You'll see what I mean in a minute.
This year I went out and bought myself a 3.5 foot artificial tree just for my stitched ornaments. It was a great deal and plus I wanted to treat myself :o) I don't like putting those ornaments on a real tree for fear they will get sap on them. I've spent too much time working and finishing them to have that happen!
One night I put the tree together and then a few days later I put the mini lights on. When I couldn't take it anymore, I dug out all my cross stitched ornaments and started putting them on the tree :o) Since it was still November, I couldn't bring it upstairs yet so when I was in the basement putting a wash in, I'd admire my creation.
FINALLY December arrived and I brought my little tree upstairs. It now resides upstairs on the second floor. We don't have a hallway per se but a landing with the two bedrooms, TV room and bathroom going off of it. I always pictured a tree there and this is what it looks like -
I'm not crazy about the tree skirt as I'm not a gold person but it was the only 24 inch one I could find! It works though. What I didn't take into account was how big some of my ornaments were but that's okay because I love my tree :o) We put mini lights up the side of the stairs again this year and with them and my tree lit up, it's so festive.
Now that brings me back to my two finishes! I was in the craft store one day and came across some rusted tin snowflakes and I knew immediately what I would do with them :o) With a little tweaking of stitches here and there, these are the results -
I just love them and they'll be going up on my new tree once the glue is dry :o) I used the snowmen faces from Oh Joy by Val's Stuff that was in this years' JCS Ornament Issue and stitched them on some raw linen scraps that I had laying around. I changed the colors and used DMC 712, WDW Onyx and WDW Carrot.
As you can see, their noses are much shorter but I needed to do that in order to get a rounder looking head for my circle. I used Sharon's Magnetic Needleminder Tutorial to cover my metal form. I glued it to the front of the tin snowflake and then cut a circle out of antique white felt to glue on the back and cover the mess ;o) Add a little ribbon and voila!
Btw, our delivery DID arrive today so now I'll be busy putting furniture together :o) I'll be back soon to update you on that.
SOME SLEEP! Please! I'm working off of very little this week and I'm desperate for a good night's sleep. Every inch of my body is screaming :o( I've tried television induced (do you know how many things are wrong with Lake Placid?), literature induced (I've finished my most recent book), food induced (put it this way, my "lifestyle change" has been thrown out the window) and drug induced (prescription people!) sleep but nothing is working. Maybe my next step is to ask DH to hit me over the head with the good ol' rubber mallet ;o) I think that would be too tempting for him though, lol! I have no idea if it's a FM High or that I just can't turn my brain off but something is going to give pretty soon and it probably won't be pretty. Knowing my luck I'll sleep right through Christmas!
The good thing is, I have gotten back to my stitching :o) Gathering Eggs is still on hold but only for the time being. There are a couple of projects that I want to complete over the holidays and then it will be back to her. I finally finished up my PIF gift and it's on the way to the UK as I type! I'm not going to post pictures yet because I know Karen comes by my Blog on a regular basis and I don't want to ruin the surprise for her. I still have three slots available to PIF so feel free to sign up if you are up to the challenge ;o)
I also dug out my Snowmen WIP and completed him -
I stitched him on the 25 count Moss Green Lugana that was called for but he was done over two and not over one. I still value my 20/20 vision! LOL! I was really unsure of the colors in the variegated silk (Belvedere Gardens) so that is why I didn't finish him up before this. I'm still not sure of it but I have to say that it's growing on me :o) Right now I'm working on his mate, Be Merry. I doubt they will be turned into ornaments as they will be too big but I might attempt to make them into cubes. We'll see!
Last night, DH came home with my two pieces that were taken to the framers earlier in the week and all I can say is...they look FANTASTIC! I'm so pleased! I can't post pictures yet but look for them after Christmas ;o)
I think it's about time that I confess to some dirty little secrets :o) This shouldn't come as a complete surprise. I mean, everyone's got them. Some we share openly with friends or family. Some we bury deep down inside, just too embarrassed to risk letting the 'cat out of the bag'. As humans, we dread having others criticize or think badly of us. The last thing we want to do is feel alienated or 'different'. What we fail to realize is that some of our own secrets aren't so unique after all and that the person sitting right next to us might be hiding the exact same thing.
I have to admit to having the most foul smelling little dog. It's hard to believe but at ten pounds Brie can clear a room with her stench!
I know what you're thinking...it's probably her breath (which could stop a train) or her flatulence (which unbelievably is not that bad) but it's her body odor. She literally does sweat! How she does it, DH and I are still trying to figure that out. I didn't think that dogs could sweat but she does. Once her little body oven gets going, her pits actually get wet. Duncan is 55 pounds and has been sprayed by a skunk twice and he still smells better than Brie! You all know Pigpen from The Peanuts right? He walks around with that cloud of dust following him? Well, replace Pigpen with Brie and that cloud of dust with a mass of offensive odor and then you have the mental picture :o) This is the scene every morning when she emerges from her cocoon like bed. I saw a deodorant stick for dogs once but when I went back to get it, it was gone :o( We might seriously have to look into that more.
I have to confess that I watch America's Next Top Model. Wow! That was a big one to admit ;o) I've been watching it since season two. DH and I both dislike all the reality shows and they are pretty much banned from our house but for some reason I am drawn to this one. I've never aspired to be a model. I've done a few fashion shows in my life and even won second princess at the Miss Fredericton Pageant Show back in 1991 but that was partly to get over my fear of public speaking. Why would someone want to have their self esteem picked apart by photographers, designers and the media when they can pretty much do that to themselves. Why would you want to get into a profession where being in your twenties is considered old? Maybe it's because of these questions that I keep watching.
I want to make it known that I now have another WIP.
Isn't he cute? :o) This is called Snowmen by Val's Stuff and he was in the October 2006 issue of the Just Cross Stitch magazine. The only thing I have left to do are a few small areas around him but I need to order in the fiber (Belvedere Gardens by Silk 'n Colors) and we all know that I'm 'supposed' to be on a stash starve ;o) Why did I start another piece? You know how hard it is to travel with a big cross stitch project. Since I already had the material, I thought he was an easy pattern to kit up and take on any travels. Of course I have done mine two over two instead of the one over one. I refuse to go blind at age 35! LOL! I'm going to do his mate, Be Merry, as well.
I have to confess that I cheated, a 'little', on my stash starve pact. Yesterday I picked up two charts by The Cricket Collection called We The People and Gingerbears.
They were only 0.50 each though! How could I pass that over???? I was weak, I know :o(
Last, but not least, I want to make it known that I eat pie backwards. This may sound weird, I know. I eat anything that comes in a triangular wedge, backwards. There is one exception though...pizza. Why? I have NO idea! Pie, cheesecake, quiche...all backwards.
There you have it! I've gotten a few things off my chest today :o) Whew! Letting it all go... You know, I'm on a lot of pain medication today so maybe this wasn't really the best time to write up this post :oS LOL! Oh well. Here's to Tylenol 3 with Codeine!!!!
