Second Finish For 2010

Are you shocked? You saw my list of goals so you know I have a bit of a road ahead of me. Might as well break away fast from the starting gate ;o)

This is the 2008 Snowman freebie from The Prairie Schooler -

Can you see a theme going on here? LOL! I'm smitten with snowmen :o)

Okay, I'm going to shock you even further because I actually finished finished him into an ornament! What do you think -

Believe it or not but I didn't have any pinking shears in my box of tools so I had to venture out and find some. Luckily Wal-Mart had them at a decent price.

This is my first time using the felt as a backing so I'm pleased. I'm not sure if I should have had more felt showing or not. DH said no, that it was fine. The next time I attempt this finish, I'm going to use more batting though because he looks kind of flat to me.

So I have another piece completed and it counts as one ornament off my list. At this rate, I might have all twelve stitched up AND finished for our tree next year ;o)

As you can see, Sabrina has won the poll! I've pulled all the DMC threads and I'm just waiting for the beads, specialty threads and fabric. I do have one more question though...I do like her on the Natural Light linen that is suggested but I pictured her on a light grey. I have a piece of Pearl Grey linen but I'm not too sure about it. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as fabric colour goes? I tried a gif of Sabrina (someone sent it to me) on the Pattern Viewer but she won't show up :o( Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Love your little guy. Those pinking shears really do come in handy. The only problem I have with felt is that it fades over the years. But like Fritos..you can make more!

Pumpkin, the ornament looks great! I think you finished it just perfectly. As for Sabrina, go with the fabric called for. I can't wait to see your progress on this one, as I was thinking of stitching it myself!

Damn I thought for sure you would need that extra piece stash of someone who loves snowmen too. Geeze, some day someone will hear me....lol I think you have just the right amount of felt showing and he is fantasticly fun.
Be always in SNOW and stitches.

He is so cute and the finishing is perfect ! As for the fabric, when you get the one orderd compare them and see what you think. I'm really bad at picking out colors.

Good heavens woman... what is this - finishing stitching AND finishing into ornies ? Are we actually supposed to do that and not just let them gather dust in a drawer for a few years ? Madness !

He looks adorable, by the way !

As for Sabrina, I'm not sure about the Pearl Grey. She'd be absolutely stunning on it, depending on the shade of grey - that was the first thing that came to my mind too though. I'm anxious to see how you come with her :D

Nice finish on the snowman. And your finish-finish looks great!
I just realized that he's advocating smoking (what with that pipe...)

Can't wait to see your Sabrina. Maybe when I'm done Rose of Sharon I'll start her...(Enabler!)

Congrats on the finish. The ornament looks fab. I would say that the amount of felt looks perfect. A really cute finish.

With regards to Sabrina. Personally I would wait until I had all of the threads & beads & lay them out on top of the fabric, take pictures & then lay it all out again on the other fabric. Seeing all of the threads on the fabric always seems to give me more of an idea on how it'll look & what shades will stand out the most.

I agree with Lisa - do a 'floss toss' on different fabrics.

Great snowman ornament!

I think he looks perfect, Cathey--I would have left that amount of felt showing, too. I should stitch this one up for my snowman tree some day :)

Love the PS ornament finish, as you know I love Snowmen too! I have to get some pinking scissors to try this finish too :)

Oh this little guy is too cute! Smitten with snowmen - me too.

Looking forward to watching Sabrina take shape.

Your snowman turned out great!!

I thought about doing Sabrina on a grey fabric as well but there are so many options out there. If you've got a couple of different colours of fabric (i.e. grey, natural, etc.) I think the floss toss is the best way to go.

When snowmen are that cute, who wouldn't want to stitch him up? Great finish...I love that amount of pinked felt peaking out!

He just cute,
well done on your 2nd finish, you have smokin needles then!

Awesome, awesome finish! I don't own a pair of pinking shears, but need them for something that I plan on sewing. I'm glad to hear that the 'mart has them so I won't have to go out hunting for them :)

Love that snowman & I think you used a perfect amount of felt. Awesome finishing job!
