VK - PART I

I want to thank everyone for their well wishes last week :o) DH and I had a wonderful vacation and a lot of much needed time together. I kind of kept you in the dark though...because we actually went away! I'm going to try (over the next few days) to share our adventure with you. I haven't been feeling the best since we got back so please bare with me.

On Monday, September 20, we took off from home (e-a-r-l-y) and caught the Digby ferry that runs from Nova Scotia to Saint John, New Brunswick. This was our first time on the ferry and it was a lot of fun :o)

I even got to see a pod of Harbour Porpoises! Okay, so there's only one in the picture ;o)

It was a three hour crossing but it saved us 339 Kms. Right now it's expensive, unfortunately, but it's something that I would definitely do again.

On our first night, we stayed in Bangor, Maine. We did a bit of shopping and I was able to track down the new Gingher scissors, Ella, at Jo-Ann's Fabrics :o) I was one happy girl! You have to understand that this was the closest I was going to get to a LNS. LOL!

The following day, we headed down Route 1. This is our favourite because it's very scenic. We made a stop in Camden and had a delicious lunch at Linda Bean's Perfect Maine Lobster Cafe. DH and I shared a Brie Panini :o) Kind of in honour of our little Brie because she loved coming to this town.

As you can see, it's still a very busy time of year!

We kept driving south and drove through the town of Wiscasset. There is a 'very' small take out there called Red's Eats that is supposed to have THE BEST lobster roll in Maine. They claim one pound of lobster in each roll :oP I tried to get a picture of the line up while we were driving by but it didn't come out :o( This is the second time we have driven by Red's and both times the line up was around the corner! Alas, no lobster roll for Pumpkin...

The colours were beginning to change while we were in Maine. It makes for a wonderful drive :o)

Stay tuned for the next instalment of our vacation!

Sounds like a fun time. But I don't care if the line was around TWO blocks. I would always stop for lobster roll!

Ahhh, my neck of the woods...well, south of my neck of the woods. I go to JoAnnes in Bangor whenever I get down there. There is no fabric store besides Wal-mart around here. It's not much of a Needlework store though. Can't wait to hear more of your trip.

Sounds like you had a good start to your vacation. My friend Cheryl takes that ferry frequently when she visits her Mom in NS. I agree with Kathryn, I would wait in line for a lobster anything! Hope the foliage was in it's glory.

What fun! The photos are absolutely breathtaking. I love the one of the trees starting to turn, for that looks like what I picture the North east to look like. I look forward to the rest of your travel stories. Hope you are feeling better.
Take care

Wow! You guys did have an adventure. I miss Maine. I want to live there so bad. My husband was born and raised in Shirley, Maine near Moosehead Lake. Most of his family are still there. I would love to be there to see the leaves changing colors. I am sitting here all teary eyed wanting to be in Maine. Thank you for the pictures and I can't wait to see more.

Wow!!! Looks like you guys had a great trip! I love ferry rides, Rich and I took the ferries from Bar Harbor and the one that used to go out of Portland into Yarmouth. It is a great way to travel.
I am home sick for Bangor right now(I went to HS in Orono). I also love the drive down Rte 1. I love Camden and Lincolnville beach and Searsport.
Of course yesterday I got a call from my Maine Mom. I haven't gotten back in 9 years.

I hope that you are feeling better soon. I can't wait to see more pics.

Thanks
Chris

Oh wow. I am insanely jealous. Forget Caribbean cruises or sun holidays in the Canary Islands. Me, I'd love to go through the Canadian Maritime Provinces and then down through Maine. Thanks for sharing the pics. PLEASE keep them coming!
