PB And...

"I was momentarily speechless. That wasn't the evening I had planned out in my mind. I was going to stand in a scalding hot shower until I was wrinkly. Then I was going to make myself a peanut butter and Marshmallow Fluff sandwich. I like peanut butter and Fluff because it combines the main course with the desert and it doesn't involve pots." ~ From Visions Of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich.

When I think of comfort food, a peanut butter and Fluff sandwich is one thing that immediately comes to mind. I loved eating that as a kid and I still do today :o) For those of you who aren't familiar with Fluff, it's basically a liquefied marshmallow spread. Yum! I'm not sure whoever came up with this combination, but it's almost as brilliant as PB and chocolate.

Yes, who doesn't love Reese's Peanut Butter Cups; the hard chocolate exterior with the creamy peanut butter interior. Drool :oP And have you seen the oversized version of them that they have out now? Oh boy! That's almost a meal in itself but hey...you won't hear me complain. LOL!

Normally when you think of peanut butter, Kraft or Skippy usually come to mind. DH and I ate Kraft for years. I hate to tell you this...but it's really not that good for you :o( Since we changed our eating habits years back, we did a major switch on the PB front as well and went to the real thing. No hydrogenated oils and less sugar = better for you. We find that if we have to settle for Kraft in certain situations, it's much too sweet. Funny how your taste buds can change.

If you want to go for the typical classic, that would have to be peanut butter and jam. But PB doesn't deserve just any jam though! If it's PB & J in this house, it's got to be a jar of Mom's homemade raspberry or strawberry freezer jam. DH seems to be stingy with the jam but I load it right on there until it drips down the sides of the bread.

There is a dark side to peanut butter combinations though and I never knew this until I met DH. His quirk? PB and bacon on toast! Bleck! Definitely not a combination I would consider but apparently it is quite popular. Who would have thunk? But since learning of this unusual pairing, I've been introduced to other not-so-appealing combinations... How about PB and olives? Ewwww! PB and pickles? Yuck! PB and hot dogs? Hurl!

So what's your deep dark peanut butter favourite? Are you a traditional PB and honey person or are you a PB and onion freak? Share your special combinations. Come on, don't be shy ;o)

I wouldn't mind trying marshmallow though. hummmm....

I do the PB&J, only "gourmet" style, I toast the bread. Will have to give the fluff a try.

I've been eating a lot of peanut butter lately (it's quick). I find the natural brands too oily, so I stick to Skippy Super Chunk. Generally it's peanut butter and honey (sometimes with an added banana if I haven't had any fruit that day). But I am COMPLETELY with your husband -- peanut butter and bacon is tasty. Have no interest in trying olives or pickles or anything else with peanut butter, but I do like olive and cream cheese or walnut and cream cheese sandwiches. If it is not peanut butter and honey, right now it is smoked turkey, cream cheese and cranberry spread -- thanksgiving on whole wheat!

Nothing too wierd, I hoard the kids' Hershey bars after Halloween and slather PB on them. I think the "real" PB--the organic kind with just peanuts and maybe a little salt--is WAY better than Jiffy or Skippy.

I was seriously a PB junkie until I met DH. Since he's allergic I rarely ever have it and I have to have it at work. It just doesn't taste as good anymore but my favorites besides reese cups and peanut butter M&M's are PB & blackberry jam or PB and banana.

Actually, I love peanut butter and bananas! Especially for breakfast on Grandma's sunflower bread, delish!! Never had a fluff sandwich, but it does sound good.

Hi Cathey,

I remember eating peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches at one time at a friends house, and they actually do go well together. It's been a long time since I've done that though.

We just switched to the pure peanut butter in this household and it is going to take some time for us to
get use to the taste. Peanut butter
is good protein, which gives us
energy. Wish it was lighter in
the points for us Weight Watchers,
but that's the way she goes.

Keep an eye on your mailbox Cathey.
I mailed your charts about two
weeks ago...hopefully to the right
address.

Cheers!!

I loathe PB. *hides from the enraged mob*
No, honestly. I don't like it. At all. I love salted peanuts and I can eat spiced or sugared peanuts all day. But peanut butter? No thanks. Every last jar on the planet could be nuked and I'd be one happy camper!

PB&J for me or PB, honey & raisins :o) Will have to give the fluff a try. Saw a segment on a GMA the other day & they had pb on a bologna sandwich w/mayo, lettuce & tomato.

I prefer PB on it's own,I have occasionally had it with Strawberry Jam, but I did have it with Lime Marmalade that was nice.
Oh and have you tried it on Cream crackers(Jacobs), very dry but yummy!!

omg we just had this conversation the other day and funny stories come out of what to mix with the great PB. When I was growing up, my father always had two PB and Mayonaise Sandwiches with butter too, every day for lunchand 2 more at night before he went to bed always with a large glass of ice water. Well, I chose milk with the same PB & Mayo but only for lunches. There are so many combos out there. How funny is that?
Be always in stitches.

Unadulterated, straight out of the jar when I get the munchies and thought I had cleared the home of all the tempting treats!

I am a huge PB fan myself--have it every morning for breakfast, thinly spread on a piece of whole wheat toast (much like you would use butter) with a nice glass of milk. My favorite combo, though is PB on bananas--YUM!

OK--time to go get my PB fix for the day :)

This time of year .. Peanut Butter balls...how I love Christmas baking season !!!

There is a very popular burger place in Otawa called The Works. They offer 2 burgers with peanut butter. once called SK8R Boy - Peanut Butter, Jack Cheese and Bacon and the other called Hold the Phone with Peanut Butter, Cream Cheese and Jack Cheese. Definitely not for me, but I have a couple of brave friends who tried and loved them. Yuck

Supercrunchy straight out of the jar. Or on apples.

Hmm generally just PB on bread or toast (makes a quick breakfast). Occationally with jam, but not usually. Don't have any fluff in the house, but if I did, yup I like that combo (first had it years ago when I was visiting friends in Mass.). Also, PB and potato chips combo, makes a fun crunch.

I must lead a boring life as I don't eat PB very often and usually only with fluff. DH loves his PB and fluff and strawberry jam sandwich. I must prefer creme creme cheese and any kind of jam. My very favorite if creme cheese and cherries sandwich. It is a good thing we don't all love the same thing.

Do you want to know something curious? :p
I only know peanut butter from the movies or tv! Lol!!
I have no idea of the flavor... I believe something like peanut hahahaah but in fact I never tasted, it's not usual here! :)

So here is my confession: despite a dozen attempts with different peanut butter brands, no one in the house -even me- has been able to get used to it. We definitely stick to good old butter or Nutella. You know Nutella, don't you?

you can have my share, LOL... I'm not much of a PB fan.

I grew up with a health food crazed mom who would only allow us to consume peanut butter from the health food store--the kind with the oil swimming on the top of the container that was so hard to stick your knife in to get a chunk to spread on your seeded wheat bread. Yeah, I used to chuck those sandwiches into the storm drain as soon as I was out of sight of the house!! LOL My neighbor was allowed Peter Pan with fluff. I never understood the concept of fluff. When we go to the US, the first thing in the shopping cart is a big container of Skippy regular peanut butter and a big container of Welch's grape jelly. YUMM. Perfect combo. They have peanut butter here but it's not the same as the wonderful goodness that is Skippy.

I have no funny combinations to share but I do miss my Peanut Butter Cups, too bad they are loaded and I do mean loaded in high fat content! Damn Gallbladder won't let me eat them without a visit to the ER and I don't want to go there so I don't eat them anymore! My Son is allergic to Peanuts so we can't even have it in the house too :(
